My Top Five Favorite Romance Novels

My Top Five Favorite Romance Novels

(Currently)

So, as I've said before, I'm not the biggest fan of romance novels. I'm also not a big fan of favorites lists when it comes to books because I rarely meet a book I don't like and therefore choosing my favorites is hard. I have been seeing a lot of favorites floating around recently and felt I should give it a go so I thought why not start with the genre I have read the least so I have less to choose from. Here's my list and reasons why.

1. Landline (Rainbow Rowell)

So, if you've ever read the book, you know that it is undeniably original. A woman gets the chance to speak to her husband twenty years in the past over an old landline. She thinks she can save her marriage in the present with these phone calls and he thinks he's saving their relationship from where it was then. She boards a plane and hikes through miles of Nebraska snow to get to him. The characters are lovable, the humor is there, the twists and turns keep it interesting. I love it.

            2. An Abundance of Katherines (John Green)

Okay, so while we're on the topic of totally original love stories, An Abundance of Katherines tops that list and also happens to make my top five. One guy, nineteen girlfriends named Katherine, a formula to find the perfect girl, and a post-graduation road trip. John Green creates a love story that couldn't be more weird and more perfect.

3. The Crown (Kiera Cass)

This book is the last book in the five book Selection series and was by far my favorite. The last two books in the series follow Maxon and America's children in their own Selection. Eadlyn, their oldest daughter and the crown princess, is a stubborn and headstrong women who in the end challenges the rules makes her own happy ending. I love The Crown more than the rest because of the gender reversal of the Selection and Eadlyn is such a strong woman and I love her character.

4. The Jewel (Amy Ewing)
In Amy Ewing's first novel, she crafts a beautiful dystopia in which girls who can tap into the elements around them are sold as surrogates to the wealthy to bear their children, using their gifts to make the children healthy. The only problem is when Violet, a surrogate, falls in love with a boy in the home in which her owners live. She decides to run away with him and inadvertently discovers the true fate of the surrogates. Cue daring, dangerous escape and a quest to change the world while simultaneously protecting her new love. Amy Ewing creates a beautiful romance in a gorgeous fantasy world.

5. Looking For Alaska (John Green)
Looking For Alaska is one of my favorite books period but I also found the love story quite compelling. It's tragic and shows the harsh realities of life and love. It doesn't have the perfect happy ending or even a great romance, but that's what I loved about it. Not everyone is going to love you back and sometimes life doesn't even give you the chance to find out. But you can always bounce back and learn from it.
